Equipment independent innovation is the strategic basis
China has set an ambitious goal of building an innovative country in the next 15 years. As an automobile industry that is a pillar industry of the national economy, of course, we must take the lead in improving the independent innovation capability of science and technology and complete the transformation from a big automobile manufacturing country to a strong country. One of the key technologies is equipment technology. . In the past ten years, the automobile industry has become the mainstay of Chinese machine tool consumption, and it consumes about 40% of the machine tools of the whole society. At the same time, more than half of the investment in the automotive industry is used to purchase machine tools, of which about 80% are imported machine tools. Statistics show that since the 1990s, investment in the automotive industry has accelerated significantly. During the "Tenth Five-Year Plan" period (2001-2005), the total investment in the automobile industry has exceeded 200 billion yuan, that is, more than 100 billion yuan was used to purchase machine tools, of which about 80 billion yuan (10 billion US dollars) purchased imported machine tools. It accounts for 45% of the total import of machine tools for 5 years ($21.7 billion). This is the main reason for the rapid growth of China's machine tool market and machine tool imports.

For decades, the localization of China's automobile manufacturing equipment has experienced a tortuous process. In the 1970s, in order to equip the second automobile plant truck factory, the relevant departments organized more than 130 machine tool production and research units, providing 117 automatic lines and 1004 kinds of 5,500 high-efficiency and special equipment. The localization rate of automobile equipment is 96%. In the 1980s, China's automobile industry was transferred to cars, and the domestic machine tool industry was not suitable. The localization rate of car equipment has only been 20% for a long time. According to incomplete statistics, the flexible automatic line (FTL) used in advanced engine manufacturing technology has been installed in about 100 units, with a unit price of about 20 million US dollars, of which imports account for more than 90%. China is the hottest and most imported country in the world for FTL applications. Among the four major process equipments for vehicle manufacturing in China, except for the stamping automatic production line, domestic products account for most of the market, and almost all of them rely on imports.

China’s dream of becoming a car-powered country cannot be built on beaches that have long relied on equipment imports. On the one hand, for auto companies, fierce market competition requires continuous reduction in manufacturing costs. It can be said that equipment localization is the need of business survival. On the other hand, as China's auto industry begins to enter the meager profit stage, enterprises will not be able to pay high import equipment costs for a long time. At the 2005 meeting of the China Automotive Engineering Society, Yan Qinghui, deputy general manager of the Guangzhou Automotive Technology Center, said that if the relationship between China's automobile and equipment industry develops like this, it will enter a vicious circle. The fewer orders a machine tool company gets for a car, the harder it is to develop. At present, China's auto industry's product development autonomy is in the foreign side, not only the auto industry's own brand is difficult to develop, but also affects the right to speak on equipment purchase. Only when the automotive industry controls the technology in its own hands can the localization of equipment be promoted. Judging from the cooperation between GAC and Toyota, China has no autonomy. Even a hammer must be imported from Toyota in Japan. It is impossible to talk about the localization of equipment. The foreign party must not only introduce their equipment, but also the operating software of the equipment must be purchased from their country. Even if they did not make money in the car investment, they have already made money from the purchase of equipment.

At the same time, in recent years, China's CNC machine tool industry has made great progress, especially a large number of internationally renowned machine tool enterprises have settled in China, and provided an objective basis for equipment localization.

In the next 15 years, China's auto production is expected to rise from the current 5 million to more than 13 million. Do you still need to continue to spend hundreds of billions of dollars to import production lines? This is the best and last chance for Chinese machine tool companies to provide equipment for the auto industry. If they do not seize it, they will never miss the auto industry.

From a historical perspective, the development of automotive products is bound to be accompanied by a revolution in manufacturing technology and equipment, and vice versa. For example, in the early 20th century, Ford Motor Company founder Ford invented the production line, and since then the car has entered the society. At the end of the 20th century, due to technological advances, the cycle of upgrading automobile products was shortened from several decades to three to five years. The combined machine automatic line cannot be adapted due to lack of flexibility. Ford has cooperated with INGERSOLL to develop a high-speed machining center with high flexibility and high efficiency. The advent of a flexible automatic production line has accelerated the upgrading of automotive products. This is what we can see every year today. One of the reasons for the listing of dozens of new cars. In the 21st century, engine manufacturing technology is brewing a new revolution in order to resolve the increasingly prominent contradictions of diversity and economy, to meet the needs of variable varieties, variable batches and rapid market response. Suggestions for independent innovation strategy
First of all, we must focus on the national medium- and long-term scientific and technological development planning outline, and set priorities for development, and strive to be included in national projects.

The manufacturing development ideas identified in the planning outline propose to improve the equipment design, manufacturing and integration capabilities. Basically realize the independent design and manufacture of high-end CNC machine tools, major complete sets of technical equipment, key materials and key components. In accordance with this policy, we must aim at the medium and long-term needs of the automotive equipment market from the whole vehicle and key parts production lines and other equipment, aim at the world's automotive manufacturing technology and equipment development frontier technology, aim at the domestic weak links, and choose key breakthrough directions.

Second, we must create an automotive manufacturing technology and equipment innovation system. The equipment industry must be able to provide a total solution, resell equipment to sell services, which is a watershed between traditional equipment manufacturing and modern equipment manufacturing. To fully understand the car manufacturing process, we must also have the comprehensive capabilities of various technologies. At the same time, we must keep up with the rapid changes in automotive products and modern manufacturing technologies, and continue to innovate in manufacturing technology and equipment. Of course, we must also meet the requirements of car manufacturing for the basic performance of machine tools - high speed, high precision, high precision retention, high reliability and so on.

There are two measures taken: First, relying on key projects to promote the independent manufacturing of major technical equipment. The project owner and the manufacturing enterprise relying on the project jointly develop detailed implementation plans for independent manufacturing of equipment. Second, key common technologies and cutting-edge technologies are jointly tackled under the leadership of relevant state departments.
