Alumina prepared from bauxite is dissolved in cryolite and electrolyte, and several fluoride salts are added to control the electrolyte temperature, density, resistivity, and solubility of aluminum. Then, a current is passed to electrolyze the melted alumina. In this way, oxygen is generated on the carbon anode and reacts with the latter, while aluminum is accumulated on the cathode as a molten metal layer. The separated metal can be periodically removed by siphon method or vacuum method, and then the molten aluminum is transferred to casting equipment and cast into ingots.
