Not long ago, Mr. Chen Zhengzhou spent more than 20,000 yuan to purchase a "red sandalwood" floor, but found that this material does not exist in the list of AQSIQ. Fortunately, the court decided to pay for the justice. Since there have been such phenomena in other places, is the Beijing market standardized? This week, the reporter conducted a number of visits and found that many names of wood used for flooring are not standardized. Consumers need to be vigilant when buying.
Marking is very confusing
In the wooden floor shop of the Red Star Magdalen Da Jiao Ting shop, the reporter saw many floors with different designs and names. Such as "Equatorial ebony" three-story solid wood composite floor, "African water pattern red sandalwood" solid wood composite floor, "Brazilian ancient Yi Su Mu" solid wood composite floor. In addition, "Brazilian teak" "African teak" solid wood flooring or laminate flooring can be seen everywhere.
The name of the shopping display on the Internet is even more chaotic. When looking for floor colors, the reporter saw various words such as "red sandalwood", "black ebony" and "brazilian redwood".
Do these wood species exist? According to a salesperson at a store, the pattern material of solid wood flooring indicates that the wood species is used, and the reinforced floor is a pattern imitation. "Since it is marked out, there must be such wood." She explained that since these woods are mostly imported from abroad, they are relatively precious and their prices are relatively high.
“How do I know that you really use the African water-red sandalwood?†“We are big brands and of course we use this one.†The salesman said, but she also admitted that there is generally no relevant document or method to indicate its use. It is this kind of material unless it is certified by professional wood.
The name is not standardized
So, do these kinds of strange names in the market actually have corresponding tree species? Or do they have a standardized name? To this end, the reporter interviewed Zhang Lifei, a researcher in wood identification at the Research Institute of Wood Industry, Chinese Academy of Forestry.
Zhang Lifei introduced that for the name of wood, the country successively published national standards such as “Main Chinese Wood Name†and “Main Chinese Imported Wood Name†around 1997 and 2000. Whatever the furniture or flooring sold in the general market, as long as the wood name is involved, it must be consistent with the specifications. Enterprises can not name without permission, if it is imported timber, also need to send the wood first to the Academy of Sciences named. “If an enterprise names it unethically, and takes some names that do not conform to the specifications, it needs to take on its own responsibilities.†At the same time, she said that many names that are “good-looking and eye-catching†on the market are actually not standardized, and the vast majority of consumers have Don't know it.
A long list of names that reporters collected from the market were "Equatorial ebony", "African water-red sandalwood", "Brazilian ancient sui-mu", "Sabeli", "Tietan", "Goldoptera" and "Brazilian rosewood". "Liquor teak," "Indonesian millennia ebony," "Ebony ebony," etc., Zhang Lifei stated that except for the existence of "Sabeli" and "ancient hematite," other woods do not belong to the name of the specification. And even if it is the ancient Yi Su Mu, it is mostly produced in Africa, there is no "Brazilian Gu Yi Su Mu" said.
Which woods are those names referring to? Zhang Lifei said that since the name is not standardized, it is only through slicing that it is known which wood it belongs to. Therefore, simply relying on these non-standard names, consumers simply can not know what kind of wood in the end, let alone distinguish its material and value.
Fraud or judgment
In the face of these unidentifiable products that have been discovered, relevant officials from the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Industry and Commerce said that if it does not comply with the national standards, it is unclear and it is unqualified, and consumers can request a return. However, if during this process, due to unclear identification of the business leads to misunderstandings by the consumer and constitute false propaganda or fraud, then the consumer may be required to pay back one for one. Zhang Lifei suggested that companies should first check the wood before the name is given to avoid related risks.
There are many types of wood, and even if you see national standards, consumers may not remember it. So how can consumers avoid buying unrealistic products when they buy? Luo Yu, head of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Quality Supervision and Inspection of Wood Furniture, said that they have also encountered cases in which the timber labeling was not in conformity with the standard - consumers bought a bargain at a high price. In this regard, he suggested that consumers should first look at the label name when purchasing the product, and ask the salesman what the wood's canonical name is. If the salesman can't tell it, they need to pay more attention. "At least there is a spectrum of hearts that can reduce the chance of being cheated."
