Footwear exports to the European Union must be alert to excessive hexavalent chromium

A few days ago, due to hexavalent chromium exceeding standard, two batches of safety shoes in Shandong were reported by France. According to statistics, as of this year, the EU REPAX has issued a total of 11 notifications of leather products, of which 9 are footwear notifications, of which 7 are chromium hexavalent chromium content exceeding 3ppm.

In June 2012, the new safety footwear standard EN ISO 20345:2011 passed by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) came into effect. According to the new regulations, the content of hexavalent chromium does not exceed 3 ppm.

In this regard, the inspection and quarantine authorities make three suggestions for enterprises: First, they must clarify the European Union's requirements for hexavalent chromium, especially vigilant countries such as Germany, where the notification is more concentrated; Second, the detection of hexavalent chromium content in leather raw materials, while Strict monitoring of raw materials and finished product storage, transportation environment factors, to avoid the oxidation of trivalent chromium into hexavalent chromium; Third is to strengthen the detection of hexavalent chromium content in safety shoes to ensure that the product meets the requirements of the new EU safety footwear standards.
