The Significance of Supermarket Management of Labor Insurance Products to Enterprises

On-demand selection, supermarket-style management, and the procurement of labor protection products have given rise to a new model in workplace safety. This approach not only allows workers to choose more suitable protective gear for their specific needs, but also eliminates the possibility of substandard or low-quality products slipping through the cracks. By offering a variety of options, companies can better meet the diverse requirements of different job roles and personal preferences.

A recent survey by China Labor Insurance Network revealed that many companies are now adopting a supermarket-style approach to managing labor protection supplies. For example, since March 2013, Hubei Fertilizer Plant has implemented a simulation management model for its labor protection products. Employees can access a list of available items and their prices on the company’s internal network and order them as needed. This system accounts for differences in job requirements and individual usage habits, making it well-received among employees.

The Hubei Chemical Fertilizer Material Supply Department provides samples and unit prices for washing products, as well as standard summer and winter protection items. Each department submits a quarterly demand plan through the ERP system, which, although increasing administrative workload, helps eliminate hidden procurement processes and ensures transparency. It also improves the quality of products used by workers, who previously had limited knowledge about the environments they were working in.

In Qiqihar, the public works section has taken this concept further by bringing labor protection products into real-life settings. From small gloves to raincoats and winter jackets, each product category offers multiple choices. Employees like Jiang Yan from the Neijiang line workshop are excited about new protective clothing and even try it on right there. This kind of employee-centered management is likely to gain more support and improvements in the future. By giving frontline workers the freedom to choose, the marketization and standardization of labor protection products can be effectively promoted.

However, in practice, some companies focus only on sales and turnover, while workers themselves may even feel that using protective equipment is inconvenient or outdated. We don’t intend to criticize such attitudes, but we cannot ignore the pain caused by preventable accidents, especially those related to dust exposure and pneumoconiosis. These issues have reinforced our commitment to building a strong labor protection network, helping more people recognize the importance of safety and changing the outdated perception of labor protection professionals.

During our interactions with companies, we’ve witnessed the social responsibility and mission of many outstanding enterprises. At the 88th Shanghai Labor Protection Products Trade Fair, we spoke with Ms. Zhou Li from Shandong Sunbird Clothing Co., Ltd., and Mr. Wang Huajie from Shanghai Aoxiang Footwear Co., Ltd. They shared their hopes for the development of the labor insurance industry and their dedication to corporate responsibility.

When it comes to the quality of labor protection products and whether they meet workers’ needs, the first-line workers know best. The supermarket-style management model adopted by local enterprises fully meets the common demands of workers for effective and functional protective gear. It also promotes standardized procurement practices and benefits each worker who can find the right product for their job. In this way, self-selected supermarkets make a real difference.

This approach serves as a wake-up call for companies producing counterfeit or low-quality products. Eventually, these businesses will be eliminated by the market. On the other hand, those companies that prioritize user safety as their core value will earn the trust and support of workers.
