Contactor main classification

Contactors are typically categorized based on the type of circuit they control, such as DC contactors and AC contactors. These devices are essential in managing electrical circuits by either making or breaking connections.

Another classification is based on their operating mechanism, which includes electromagnetic contactors and permanent magnet contactors. The latter has gained popularity due to its energy efficiency and reliability.

Permanent magnet AC contactors utilize the principle of magnetic pole repulsion and attraction. Instead of traditional electromagnets, they use a permanent magnet drive system. Some well-known domestic models include CJ20J, NSFC1, NSFC2, NSFC3, NSFC4, NSFC5, NSFC12, NSFC19, CJ40J, and NSFMR. These models are widely used in various industrial applications.

In a permanent magnet contactor, a fixed-polarity magnet interacts with a variable-polarity soft magnet that's embedded in the base. This interaction allows the contactor to perform functions like suction, holding, and release. The polarity of the soft magnet is controlled by an electronic module that applies short pulses of current—typically between ten to twenty milliseconds—to switch between positive and negative polarities.

Depending on the site requirements, the control electronic module can adjust the release voltage. It can also introduce a delay in the reverse pulse current, enabling low-voltage or power failure delay release. This feature helps maintain stable operation of motors and prevents instability in the power grid caused by sudden voltage drops.

Contactors can also be classified based on their driving method, such as hydraulic, pneumatic, and electromagnetic contactors. Each type has its own advantages depending on the application environment.

Additionally, contactors can be divided according to their action mode: direct-acting contactors and rotary contactors. Direct-acting models operate with linear motion, while rotary types use rotational movement to open or close the contacts.
