Mechanical part reference

Mechanical parts are composed of several surfaces. To study the relative relationship of the surface of the parts, a reference must be determined. The reference is the point, line, and surface on which the position of the other points, lines, and faces is determined. Benchmarks can be divided into design benchmarks and process benchmarks based on the different functions of the benchmark.

Design basis

The basis used on the part drawing to determine the position of other points, lines, and faces is called the design basis. As shown in Fig. 32-2, the bushing parts shown in [cc2], the outer and inner holes are designed as the axis of the part, the end face A is the design reference of the end faces B, C, and the axis of the inner hole is the outer diameter. 2. Process benchmark

The reference used by the part during machining and assembly is called the process reference. Process benchmarks are divided into assembly benchmarks, measurement benchmarks, and positioning benchmarks depending on the application.

(1) The basis for assembling the reference assembly to determine the position of the part in the part or product is called the assembly reference.

(2) Measurement reference A reference used to check the size and position of a machined surface is called a measurement reference. As shown in Figure 32-2, the bore axis is the measurement reference for testing the radial runout of the outer circle; the surface A is the measurement reference for the check length L dimension l and .

(3) The reference used for positioning the workpiece during positioning reference machining is called the positioning reference. As the surface (or line, point) of the positioning reference, only the unprocessed blank surface can be selected in the first process. This positioning surface is called the rough reference. The processed surface can be used as the positioning reference in the subsequent processes. This positioning surface is called the fine benchmark.
