The method of artificial color change can be divided into three types. One is dyeing with organic dyes and the second is coating, hot baking or electroplating. The third is the bombardment of high-energy particles.

The first two methods have some common features. The green color floats on the surface, often yellowish or bluish, so it is called "evil color." Examination with a magnifying glass precipitated the dye in the fine hairline cracks between the adjacent particles of the jadeite. For the identification of light green jade and a little artificial color, it is necessary to pay great attention. If you do not carefully observe it, it is extremely difficult to identify. After cutting the radiation-induced jade, the green around the epidermis is ring-shaped and plaque-like, and the epidermis has relics that are “bombarded”, often deeper than those that are not “snapped”.

Chelsea filters are an important tool for checking dyed jade. This color filter can transmit yellow-green light and deep red light. Green jade has two segments of green and yellow-green spectrum. Under the filter, yellow-green light can pass through, and yellow-green is seen. After the chromate-stained green, a spectrum of the green portion is absorbed by the color filter, while the deep red light segment is transmitted in a large amount. Therefore, the dyed jade shows a deep red color under the color filter. The natural green jade has not been found so far, and it shows red under the color filter. The use of color filters must pay great attention to the intensity of light. It is best under normal daylight. The light-emitting tube that consumes a lot of power must not be used. Otherwise, the dyed jade can't show obvious deep red. When conditions permit, it is best to use transmitted light. In order to obtain accurate data, it is necessary to use a spectroscope, a bright green natural jade, usually with three stepped red lines at 630 nm and around 690 nm. Dyed jade presents a blurry band.
