The company maintains the highest conversion efficiency record of silicon solar cells - 25.6%, but in the module field, the previous record was 22.4% of the United States SunPower.
This conversion efficiency of Panasonic was measured by the Japan Industrial Technology Research Institute on May 27, 2015. The module consists of 72 125mm square battery cells with an opening area of ​​12018cm2. According to reports, 270.2W peak power was obtained. The conversion efficiency was 22.48%, the short-circuit current value was 6.14 A, the open circuit voltage was 51.7 V, and the shape factor (FF) was 82.0%.
Panasonic introduced that the solar cell unit used in this module is not the latest R&D product with a conversion efficiency of 25.6%, but "utilizing a mass production unit." However, the company said that "the unit conversion efficiency of the conversion is 24.3%," so it does not appear that the conversion efficiency of existing products is 22.5%.
Panasonic stated that the key to improving efficiency is to “develop a number of technologies that can reduce optical losses and electrical losses in terms of overall battery cells and modulesâ€. Specifically, the light seal structure was improved, the resistance of the connection between the battery cells and the resistance of the collector were reduced.
