The role of the current transformer is to convert a larger primary current through a certain ratio to a smaller secondary current for protection, measurement, and other purposes.

Current transformer burn-out causes (1) The current transformer is opened twice, high voltage is generated, and the current transformer burns out;

(2) Insulation aging of the current transformer is too long, breakdown or discharge occurs locally, and overvoltage occurs, causing the current transformer to burn out;

(3) The current transformer is once connected to the contact surface of the aluminum row and the oxidation is too heavy, the contact resistance is too large, and the heating causes the current transformer to burn out;

(4) The user is overloaded for a long time, causing the current transformer to burn out.

Current transformer burn-out countermeasures (1) Install a watchdog circuit breaker to avoid branch faults affecting the entire feeder power outage, especially to ensure that the branch circuit breaker can be reliably tripped when the power-using side is single-phase grounded;

(2) Connect the metering current transformer to the rear of the circuit breaker to ensure that the circuit breaker and arrester operate correctly when the metering current transformer fails;

(3) Strengthen the user's high-voltage metering current transformer and arrester high-voltage insulation test (regulations no more than 4 years), early detection of metering current transformer and arrester insulation aging degree, timely replacement, to avoid the occurrence of power outage caused by burning out the metering current transformer;

(4) Install the current transformer secondary over-voltage protector;

(5) Regularly clean the user's equipment once to reduce the pollution flash and avoid the reduction of insulation.
