According to foreign media reports, Chevrolet announced that a group of solar photovoltaic panels will be grounded at its Assembly Plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky, at the end of this month.
Solar-powered Chevrolet Sports Car generates 1.2 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually
The Bowling Green Assembly Plant is primarily responsible for the production of the Chevrolet Corvette sports car. It is a US national treasure-level super sports car, and is also the GM's top-end super sports car brand.
Chevrolet said that the solar battery to be installed is 850 kilowatts, which is the largest among the battery packs used by all automakers in Kentucky. This solar battery will generate 1.2 million kWh per year, enough to produce 850 Corvette sports cars, accounting for 2.5% of the Corvette sports car's annual production.
Rob Threlkeld, GM’s Global Director of Renewable Energy, said: “Customers love the Corvette because they are designed to be perfect, technologically advanced, and perform well. In the production of this sports car, green energy is used. Once again proved that they chose a real supercar."
At present, GM’s solar energy utilization ranks first among automakers and ranks 20th among all US industry companies. GM's 16 plants in the United States use solar power to generate 15 million kilowatt hours, reducing the equivalent of 4.99 million kilograms of coal-generated gas emissions.
