Flower summer and autumn fertilization essentials

(1) In the summer, fertilization will prevent “burning”. Summer temperatures are high and most flowers are poorly grown. Flowers that are not resistant to high temperatures, such as a string of red, petunia, gerberas, and kaffir, grow extremely slowly in summer when the temperature is high, and the fertilizer requirements are not high. At this time, fertilization should be stopped. Such as cooling down the bar: good, flowers can be fertilized when growing normally.

Flowers that are in a semi-dormant state in summer, such as the rose, cyclamen, etc., should stop fertilizing, and then start fertilizing after the temperature drops to restore growth; for some high temperature resistant flowers such as zinnia, periwinkle, cockscomb, gladiolus, sunflower, etc. Summer is the peak season for their growth and flowering, and fertilizer should be used normally. However, due to the high temperature during the day in summer, the fertilization should be selected in the morning or evening, and the concentration of fertilization should also be controlled to prevent root burning. Immediately after fertilization, rinse the leaves of the flowers with water to prevent the splash of the fertilizer on the leaves. The water-cultured flowers such as water lilies and bowls can be fertilized normally in summer. The fertilized fertilizer can be buried in the root soil. There is no burning. The phenomenon of root burning leaves.

(2) It is prudent to apply nitrogen fertilizer in autumn. However, for flowers that are dormant in winter, the application of a large amount of nitrogen fertilizer in autumn will induce the occurrence of autumn shoots. The occurrence of autumn shoots not only consumes the nutrients stored in the flowers, but also the growth and flowering of the spring flowers in the second year. Moreover, since the dormancy time of the flowers after the autumn shoots will be postponed, the freezing damage will occur when the temperature is low, so the phosphorus and potassium fertilizer should be applied to the flowers that are dormant in the winter. Phosphorus and potassium fertilizer can promote the accumulation of nutrients in flowers. Lay the foundation for growth and flowering in the second year.

It is not possible to apply nitrogen fertilizer in autumn, and nitrogen fertilizer can still be applied to flowers that do not sleep in winter. Especially for foliage plants, fertilizers based on nitrogen fertilizer should still be applied. However, when applying nitrogen fertilizer, attention should be paid to the combination with phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. Reasonable application of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer can improve the cold resistance of flowers. Plants that bloom in winter, such as cineraria, pudding, cyclamen, poinsettia, and plum, are vegetative growth seasons in early autumn. Fertilizers based on nitrogen should be applied. During the late autumn, most of them are during buds. Phosphate-potassium fertilizer is the main, nitrogen fertilizer is the secondary, and excessive nitrogen fertilizer is not conducive to winter flowering.
