Guhring develops new Firex coating process

Guhring recently introduced a new multi-coat process called Firex (trade name). The new coating process uses vacuum coating furnace equipment from Platit, Switzerland, which uses alternating ultra-thin TiN and TiAlN to alternately coat the tools. The coated tool has the characteristics of strong adhesion, high heat resistance and good damage resistance, and has the advantages of coatings such as TiN, TiALN and TiCN, and has excellent performance in dry cutting.

Guhring's Firex coated tools have shown in a variety of materials processing tests that Firex coated tools are effective in deep hole machining. For example, in the tapping of A38 steel, a Firex coated tap can drill 250 holes on average, while a TiN coated tap can only drill 50 holes; in drilling composite graphite material, a Firex Coated cemented carbide cooling drills can drill 20,000 holes on average, while TiN coated drills can only drill 12,000 holes; in drilling 6A14V titanium, one Firex coated drill can drill an average of 60 times.
