The reporter learned from the Inner Mongolia Department of Land and Resources on the 26th that the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Geological Exploration Fund has made significant progress in the Harbinmengou Gold Mine and the external census assembly survey project led by the Second Armed Police Force. Recent breakthroughs have added approximately 68.4 tons of gold and metal resources, marking a major discovery for the region.
This new gold resource reserve is considered a game-changer for Inner Mongolia's mining industry. The Harbinmengou Gold Deposit, located in the western part of Baotou City, is one of China’s key gold-forming areas. It was first discovered in the late 1980s but saw limited exploration due to insufficient funding.
In 2004, a 62-square-kilometer area surrounding the deposit was designated as a geological exploration zone. Between 2008 and 2012, the Inner Mongolia Geological Exploration Fund invested over 100 million yuan into the project. The Second Armed Police Force's Gold Unit mobilized hundreds of personnel, including geologists and technical experts, to conduct field surveys and core drilling operations across the site.
By the end of 2012, after extensive geological analysis and collaboration with domestic research institutions, the basic geological structure and mineralization characteristics of the area were fully understood. A critical gold vein group, known as No. 313, was found to extend over 5,800 meters, with 67.22 tons of gold resources officially reported.
According to the report, the Harbinmengou area has now been included in the national strategic exploration initiative. The successful submission and acceptance of 68.4 tons of gold resources indicate that the project has exceeded its initial exploration targets ahead of schedule. This achievement highlights the growing importance of Inner Mongolia in China’s mineral resource development and signals a promising future for further exploration in the region.
