What is the difference between industrial oil and edible oil? Is it legal to refine feed oil from waste oil?

The terms “feed oil” and “industrial oil” continue to enter people's sights. What is the difference between our common cooking oils? Is it legal to refine feed oil from waste oil?

1. Industrial lard and edible lard

Two important indicators for the evaluation of oils: acid value and peroxide value. Both of them reflect the degree of oxidative rancidity of the oil, the higher the value, the worse the quality.

As can be seen from the above table, the main difference between industrial lard and edible lard is the difference in its source.

The source of edible lard is very strict. It can only be the adipose tissue of fresh, clean and intact pigs. The source of industrial lard is relatively wide, and the various tissue components of pigs can be used.

Secondly, the acid value and peroxide value of industrial lard are much higher than those of edible lard.

Industrial oils are strictly prohibited for processing edible oils. In 2012, there was a sensational Yunnan poisonous oil case. It was suspected that a certain oil company in Yunnan was using industrial lard and industrial fish oil as raw materials. The edible lard was illegally processed. The involved personnel were poisoned and harmful to production and sales. Criminal liability for food crimes is severely punished.

Second, trench oil and waste oil crime

Gutter oil is a general term for people in various types of inferior oil in their lives. In order to crack down on the oil in the trench oil, in January 2012, the Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, and the Ministry of Public Security jointly issued the "Notice on Severely Punishing the Criminal Activities of the Ditch Oil" in accordance with the law, and clarified the concept of "ditch oil" crime.

What is waste oil?

In practice, “ditch oil” crimes are distinguished from the raw materials used and can be divided into three types:

The first type is the kitchen waste , which is about the oily floating objects or the leftovers of the hotel and the hotel (known as the water), which are simply processed and crude.

The second type is the use of waste oil, that is, the so-called "edible oil" that has been illegally processed after repeated use of the oil used for fried foods;

The third type is the use of various types of meat and meat products to process non-food raw materials such as waste, including so-called "edible" processing of viscera, sewage, etc. of pigs, cattle, sheep, chickens, ducks, geese, etc. that do not meet the requirements of food hygiene. oil".

The “ditch oil” crime is distinguished by behavioral methods and can be divided into two parts:

The first is the production and processing of “edible oil” for non-food raw materials such as kitchen waste, waste oil, and various meat and meat processing wastes;

The second is to know how to use the oil produced and processed by “ditch oil” to sell.

3. Is it legal to refine feed oil from waste oil?

According to the past classification method, feed oils include animal oil, vegetable oil and mixed oil. Among them, the mixed oil is a mixture of vegetable oil and animal oil after use in the catering or food industry (cannot contain waste oil), and processed oil products. The use of mixed oils in feed oil was once legal.

However, since January 1, 2013, the Ministry of Agriculture has implemented the Catalogue of Feed Materials, which only regulates vegetable fats and animal fats, and does not allow mixed oils to enter the livestock and poultry feed list.

The number of oils and fats in the "Food Ingredients Catalogue" can be found in 29 species of vegetable oils used in the aquaculture industry. Enter the "feedstuff raw materials catalogue", which can be used for animal fats in the aquaculture industry, except for butter (butter), cream, aquatic fish products such as shrimp oil, squid oil, squid oil, fish oil, etc. There are also terrestrial animal fats.

Although the name of the product category is relatively general, the product description is more specific and detailed: it must be the fat-containing part obtained during the process of dividing the edible animal tissue, and the oil obtained by the extraction of the eucalyptus oil should be derived from a single animal species, fresh without deterioration or After refrigerated treatment, the product name shall be marked with specific animal species. The total fatty acid of the product shall not be less than 90%, the unsaponifiable matter shall not be higher than 2.5%, and the insoluble impurities shall not be higher than 1%.

In combination with the National Public Prosecution Law Department's identification of waste oil crimes and the Ministry of Agriculture's regulations on feed ingredients, waste oil cannot be used as a feed oil for refining!

Some provinces have banned in the implementation process: Shandong Province strictly prohibits the use of “ditch oil” and kitchen waste oil to produce and process animal feed. Heilongjiang Province also strictly eliminates the inflow of “ditch oil” into the feed production.
