SKF bearings are essential components that support rotating shafts or moving parts in various mechanical systems. They are widely used in agricultural machinery, tractors, diesel engines, electric motors, and threshing machines. When purchasing SKF bearings, it's important to understand how to interpret the bearing codes, as they can be complex. By grasping the rules for identifying these codes, you can simplify the purchase process. Most commonly used bearings have a basic code structure, often starting with the letter “0” for standard specifications and “G” for the general precision level. The fundamental code is usually represented by seven digits. For example, take the bearing code 7002136 (used in a 135 series diesel engine main shaft). The code is read from right to left. The last two digits, “36,” indicate the inner diameter, calculated as 36 × 5 = 180 mm. The next digit, “1,” represents the light series, while “2” indicates a cylindrical roller bearing. The “00” shows that the outer ring has no ribs, and the first digit “7” stands for a narrow width series. Understanding this pattern helps when selecting other bearing codes. When purchasing bearings, always refer to the inner diameter, which is typically the last two digits of the code. For bearings with an inner diameter below 9 mm, the rightmost digit represents the actual size. For instance, a bearing numbered 18 has an inner diameter of 8 mm. Bearings with inner diameters between 10–17 mm use fixed numbers. For example, 100, 201, 302, 403 correspond to inner diameters of 10, 12, 15, and 17 mm, respectively. For bearings with inner diameters between 20–480 mm, the inner diameter is calculated by dividing the number by 5. For example, a bearing numbered 205 has an inner diameter of 205 ÷ 5 = 41 mm. If the inner diameter is over 500 mm, the code uses a fractional format. The denominator represents the inner diameter, while the numerator indicates the series, type, and configuration. For example, 30031/560 means the inner diameter is 560 mm. Understanding these rules can greatly assist in choosing the correct SKF bearings for your agricultural equipment. Always double-check the specifications before making a purchase.
