On March 7th, the Wuhan Traffic Management Department released the list of intersections with the highest number of red-light violations in March. Among them, the intersection at Zhongshan Avenue and Minsheng Road ranked first, drawing public attention due to frequent traffic violations.
The top three intersections added in March were: Minsheng Road at Zhongshan Avenue (992 violations), Sanyang Road at Jinghan Avenue (877 violations), and the West Exit of the Third Ring Road at Siyu East Road (822 violations). In January, these locations ranked 5th, 6th, and 4th respectively, with 724, 646, and 986 violations.
During a recent on-site visit, it was observed that most red-light violations at the Minsheng Road and Zhongshan Avenue intersection occurred when drivers turned right into the Minsheng Road lane. Although there is a dedicated right-turn signal, the light is mounted on a pole rather than a cantilever, making it less visible. The area also experiences heavy pedestrian and vehicle mixing, which contributes to some drivers ignoring the red light.
At the Sanyang Road and Jinghan Avenue intersection, vehicles from both directions frequently ran the red light. According to reports, the surveillance system was installed last October. It's possible that some drivers are still testing the system or taking advantage of its new status. Meanwhile, at the west exit of the Third Ring Road on Xuyu Road, the road is relatively empty, and vehicles tend to speed through the intersection without stopping for the red light.
In a previous report on February 26th, the newspaper highlighted several intersections with the highest number of red-light violations in January, including the 8th Avenue of Heping Avenue (1,484 violations), Baofeng 1st Road (1,437 violations), and Qingdao Road along Yanjiang Avenue (1,335 violations). These issues were quickly addressed, and the locations have since dropped out of the top 10. At the 8th Avenue of Heping Avenue, the number of violations decreased by 33% in March.
