Manz has significantly enhanced its PERC solar cell production technology, reinforcing its position as a leading technology supplier in the industry. With over 25 years of experience in the solar sector, Manz has built strong relationships with major battery manufacturers worldwide. The company’s advanced process technology and equipment enable businesses to seamlessly upgrade their existing production lines to produce high-efficiency PERC cells.
CEO Dieter Manz emphasized, “Our deep expertise in the solar industry has made us a trusted partner for some of the world's largest manufacturers.†To meet the growing global demand for cost-effective, high-performance solar solutions, Manz introduced an industry-leading c-Si solar cell production solution with a conversion efficiency of 20.5%. This innovation not only optimizes crystalline silicon cell production but also strengthens Manz’s reputation as a top-tier technology provider.
At the SNEC PV Power Expo 2014 in Shanghai, Manz showcased its cutting-edge c-Si production technologies, demonstrating its commitment to driving industry progress. The company’s next-generation production process features the VCS 1200 Plasma-Assisted Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD) system, which deposits an alumina passivation layer on the back of solar cells. Combined with the LAS 2400 laser hole opening technology, this setup enables manufacturers to achieve high-efficiency monocrystalline and polycrystalline silicon cells at a lower cost.
The VCS 1200 offers a throughput of up to 1,200 wafers per hour, ensuring high productivity without compromising quality. Its advanced plasma and carrier systems eliminate pinning or uncoated areas, delivering superior uniformity and efficiency. Additionally, the system prevents edge deposits during PECVD, enhancing performance and reliability. The rapid cleaning concept minimizes downtime, while the system’s compact design allows easy integration into existing production lines.
Complementing the VCS 1200 is the LAS 2400 laser opening system, which provides precise, high-output electrode openings on the backside of solar cells. This one-stop solution reduces costs and improves wafer handling, minimizing breakage rates. With a throughput of 2,400 wafers per hour and an adjustable opening width, the LAS 2400 is ideal for upgrading current production lines.
Manz also offers the IPSG CEI 4800 wet chemical processing tool, which works alongside the VCS 1200 and LAS 2400 to create a complete technical solution. The IPSG CEI 4800 removes heavily doped layers and phosphosilicate glass (PSG), using soft sponge rollers to reduce substrate pressure and minimize breakage. This ensures a smooth and efficient production flow.
Dieter Manz added, “China is the world’s largest solar producer and a key market for our growth. We are proud to support the Chinese solar industry with our 25 years of experience and innovative technologies.†In 2012, Manz established a 20,000-square-meter production base in Suzhou, and today, it employs nearly 900 people across Asia, with a focus on expanding its presence in the region.
In the photovoltaic industry, Manz specializes in crystalline silicon solar cell production, offering metallization, laser processing, wet chemical processing, and vacuum coating solutions. The company also provides automation, testing, and inspection services, ensuring comprehensive support for its customers. Through continuous innovation and a strong corporate philosophy, Manz remains at the forefront of the solar technology landscape.
