Manz has further solidified its position as a leading technology provider in the solar industry by successfully enhancing its PERC (Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell) solar cell production technology. This advancement not only strengthens its market leadership but also enables customers to upgrade their existing production lines with ease, turning them into high-efficiency PERC manufacturing facilities.
CEO Dieter Manz remarked, “With 25 years of experience in the solar sector, we have built strong relationships with major battery manufacturers worldwide.†This deep expertise has allowed Manz to develop cutting-edge solutions that meet the growing global demand for high-efficiency, low-cost solar cells.
At the SNEC PV POWER EXPO 2014 in Shanghai, Manz showcased its advanced c-Si (crystalline silicon) solar cell production solution, which achieves a remarkable conversion efficiency of 20.5%. This innovation highlights the company’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of solar technology and maintaining its edge as a top-tier equipment supplier.
The next-generation production process from Manz incorporates the VCS 1200 Plasma-Assisted Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD) system, which deposits an alumina passivation layer on the back of the cell. Combined with the LAS 2400 laser hole opening technology, this setup helps manufacturers achieve higher efficiency in crystalline silicon solar cell production while minimizing costs.
The VCS 1200 offers a throughput of up to 1,200 wafers per hour, featuring a vertical process design that ensures uniform coating without defects. Its advanced plasma and carrier systems prevent issues like edge deposits, making it a more reliable and efficient option compared to other systems in the market. Additionally, the system supports single-sided PECVD deposition, reducing maintenance and integration complexity.
Complementing the VCS 1200 is the LAS 2400 laser opening system, designed for precise and high-output electrode openings on the backside of the cell. It ensures minimal wafer fragmentation, simplifies handling, and enhances overall production efficiency. With a capacity of 2,400 wafers per hour and adjustable opening widths, the LAS 2400 is ideal for upgrading existing lines.
To complete the production chain, Manz also introduced the IPSG CEI 4800 wet chemical processing tool. This system efficiently removes heavily doped layers and phosphosilicate glass (PSG) from the wafer surface, using a soft sponge roller to minimize damage and reduce breakage rates. When integrated with the VCS 1200 and LAS 2400, it forms a comprehensive technical solution for high-performance solar cell manufacturing.
Dieter Manz emphasized, “China is the world’s largest solar producer and consumer market. We are proud to support its growth and showcase our latest innovations at events like SNEC 2014.†The company has been actively investing in China, including a 20,000-square-meter production base in Suzhou and over 900 employees across Asia.
In the photovoltaic industry, Manz focuses on providing end-to-end solutions for both crystalline silicon and thin-film solar technologies. From metallization and laser processing to wet chemical treatment and vacuum coating, the company delivers advanced automation, testing, and inspection capabilities to help clients improve efficiency and reduce costs.
