Main Types of Environmentally Friendly Pretreatment
Waterborne Coating
Waterborne coatings are a type of paint that uses water as the primary solvent instead of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). This makes them more environmentally friendly and safer to use. There are two main types: water-soluble resin coatings and water-dispersible coatings. Water-soluble resin coatings, such as electrophoretic coatings, are known for their excellent corrosion resistance, uniform film formation, and high paint utilization. They dry at room temperature and are commonly used in automotive, electrical appliance, and home appliance industries as a primer. Electrophoretic coatings have strong penetration ability, making them ideal for complex shapes and ensuring even coverage. The second type is water-dispersible coatings, which are non-toxic, easy to apply, and quick-drying. They offer good breathability and are widely used in printing inks, paper coatings, and textile dyes. These coatings are also favored for their ease of cleaning and low environmental impact.
2. Powder Coating
Powder coating is a solvent-free coating technology that differs significantly from traditional liquid coatings. It involves applying dry powder to a surface and then curing it with heat. Since there are no solvents involved, this method is safer, energy-efficient, and produces no harmful emissions. Powder coating is simple to apply, saves resources, and has high production efficiency. It aligns well with global environmental standards and follows the "four E" principles—economy, energy saving, environment, and efficiency. China is now among the top three countries in powder coating production. There are two main categories of powder coatings: thermoplastic and thermosetting. Common types include epoxy, polyethylene, polyurethane, and UV-curable powders. These coatings are widely used on metals, wood, and other materials in applications like appliances, furniture, automotive parts, and industrial equipment.
3. Photocuring Coating
Photocuring coatings, also known as radiation-curing coatings, use ultraviolet (UV) or electron beam (EB) light to initiate rapid polymerization and cross-linking of liquid resins. These coatings are almost solvent-free, making them highly eco-friendly. They cure quickly, reduce energy consumption, and are suitable for automated production lines. Their versatility makes them ideal for coating surfaces that cannot withstand high temperatures. These coatings are increasingly popular in industries where speed and environmental safety are key concerns.
4. Other Eco-Friendly Coatings
In addition to the above, there are other types of environmentally friendly coatings such as high-performance coatings and functional coatings. These are designed for specific applications, offering enhanced properties like durability, insulation, or anti-microbial effects. With growing awareness of environmental protection, the development and adoption of these eco-friendly pretreatment methods are continuously expanding. They not only reduce pollution but also improve efficiency and safety in various industrial processes. Source of information: http://
