The automobile industry giant settled in Dongguan

On the afternoon of December 17, the Guangdong Yuehai Equipment Technology Industrial Park project officially took root in Xiegang Town, Dongguan. The signing ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including Deputy Secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and Governor Zhu Xiaodan, Standing Committee Member of the Provincial Party Committee and Executive Vice Governor Xu Shaohua, Vice Governor Zhao Yufang, as well as key leaders from Dongguan. According to reports, this project marks a major milestone for the city, with a total investment estimated between 60 billion and 80 billion yuan—making it the largest single investment since Dongguan's establishment. Once completed, it is expected to become the largest automobile industry base in the province. The industrial park project, designed by top Swiss experts, plans to invest between 60 and 80 billion yuan. It will be located in Xiegang Town, covering an area of 17 square kilometers. The development will be carried out in three phases over a 10-year period, with construction expected to begin in the first half of 2013. The project aims to build a complete industrial chain for high-end auto parts. It will integrate R&D in key technologies and core components such as automotive parts, engineering equipment, and CNC machinery. By bringing together advanced manufacturing enterprises both domestically and internationally, the park is set to create a strong industrial agglomeration effect. Additionally, it will explore new models for the integration of urban and industrial development, aiming to establish a fully developed and efficient supply chain for the auto industry. At the signing ceremony, it was revealed that around 110 foreign auto parts manufacturers have been preliminarily identified, with 26 expressing strong interest in investing in the park. Furthermore, an all-electric vehicle project with a range of 400 kilometers is also expected to be established there. Experts at the event highlighted the vast potential of the auto parts industry in Guangdong. With current annual production capacity standing at 1.67 million units, the province is projected to reach 4.5 million units by 2015. Based on the standard requirement of adding a spare parts support system for every 300,000 additional vehicles, the demand for auto parts is expected to grow significantly. However, challenges remain. Currently, Guangdong’s auto parts industry suffers from issues such as scattered distribution, small-scale operations, low concentration, and disorganized planning. The imbalance between整车 (complete vehicles) and parts has created an urgent need for improvement. Internationally, the ideal ratio of vehicle to parts output is 1:1.7. In 2011, the Pearl River Delta generated a total output value of 220 billion yuan, but only 170 billion yuan came from parts and components, resulting in a ratio of just 1:0.74. This highlights the huge room for growth and the importance of this new industrial park in reshaping the local auto industry.
