How to Properly Care for Radiation Protection Suits? Can Radiation Protection Clothing for Pregnant Women Not Be Washed? These are common concerns among many mothers who have purchased or are currently using radiation protection clothing. To address these issues, we reached out to Mr. Qin, the Quality Control Manager of Youjia, a leading domestic brand in silver fiber radiation protection clothing. He shared professional insights on how to properly care for maternity radiation suits.
The key principle for radiation protection is summarized as “Two Prevents and Five Prohibitions.†This concise guideline helps simplify the complex information available online, making it easier for pregnant women to remember and follow.
**Two Prevents: Anti-Oxidation and Prevent Breakage**
Mr. Qin explained that the two main focuses are on fabric care. There are two common types of materials used in radiation protection suits: metal fiber (stainless steel) and silver fiber.
- **Anti-Oxidation**: This applies mainly to silver fiber suits. Silver is known for its excellent shielding properties, breathability, and antibacterial effects. However, silver is prone to oxidation when exposed to air. To prevent this, it's important to avoid exposing the suit to direct sunlight for long periods and store it in a sealed bag when not in use.
- **Prevent Breakage**: This refers to metal fiber suits, which are more cost-effective but less durable. Over time, improper care can cause the stainless steel fibers to break, reducing the effectiveness of the radiation protection. Gentle handling is essential to maintain the integrity of the fabric.
**Five Prohibitions: What to Avoid**
In addition to the two prevents, there are five key rules to follow:
1. **Avoid Acidic or Alkaline Detergents**: Use only mild, neutral soap and water. After washing, hang the suit to dry naturally.
2. **Avoid Prolonged Exposure**: Do not leave the suit in the open air for too long. Store it in a sealed plastic bag when not in use. Some brands, like Youjia, provide protective bags to help prevent oxidation.
3. **Do Not Wash Frequently**: Frequent washing can damage the internal structure of the fabric, especially in metal fiber suits.
4. **No Machine Washing**: The friction inside a washing machine can damage the fibers. If washing is necessary, do it by hand with gentle strokes.
5. **Avoid Rough Handling**: When cleaning, use a soft-bristled brush and avoid rubbing aggressively. A mild alkaline detergent may be used, but it should be rinsed thoroughly.
By following the “Two Prevents and Five Prohibitions,†pregnant women can ensure their radiation protection suits remain effective and last longer. With proper care, every mother can confidently use her radiation protection clothing without worrying about its performance.
