Watering at the right time is crucial for spring wheat cultivation. Given its short growing season, an "early" approach is recommended in field management. Therefore, it's better to irrigate early, especially on fertile land or after heavy rain. The first irrigation should be applied during the second leaf and one heart stage. The second irrigation is usually carried out 7–10 days later, ensuring thorough watering and deep penetration into the soil.
Fertilization should be done reasonably. During the two-leaf-one-heart to three-leaf stage, apply 5 kg of urea per mu, and then use the second irrigation to recover another 8–10 kg of urea. At the jointing and booting stages, combine irrigation with 10–12 kg of urea per mu. For weak seedlings, apply 10–15 kg of urea to promote healthy growth without overstimulating it. This ensures sufficient nutrients while avoiding excessive growth.
Weed control is also essential. Chemical weeding should be done early, as soon as the wheat emerges, and before cotton appears to ensure safe application. Choose a low-drift herbicide like broadleaf net for effective and safe weed management.
Pest control is important too. For bacterial stripe disease, spray agricultural streptomycin in the early stages. For rust, apply foliar sprays at the infection center. Insect pests such as aphids and wheat thrips can be controlled using insecticides combined with foliar fertilizers when the wheat reaches the flag leaf stage.
Foliar fertilization is beneficial. During disease prevention, spray zinc sulfate on the leaves. In the middle and late stages, apply potassium dihydrogen phosphate and dry land dragon to protect against heat stress and dry air damage.
These practices help ensure a healthy and productive spring wheat crop, supporting both yield and quality throughout the growing season.
