Anhui guy who wasn't wearing a helmet was killed

At 8 a.m. yesterday, a tragic incident occurred at the Phufu Apartment near the Hongpu intersection on Deshengdong Road, when a large piece of tempered glass fell from the 8th floor. The accident resulted in the death of a 27-year-old construction worker from Anhui named Xiaozhong. He was working on the final phase of the project and was struck directly on the head by the falling glass. The incident took place at the construction site of Phase 4 of the Phufu Apartment, which was in its final stage of completion. Xiao Zhang, along with his coworkers, was responsible for installing the last set of glass panels and railings on Building No. 4. According to a police report from Pengyi Station, at around 8:30 a.m., two workers were installing tempered glass on the west balcony of the 8th floor when one of them slipped. A large sheet of glass, approximately 1 meter in height and 80 centimeters wide, fell from the balcony and landed directly on top of Xiao Zhang, who was working below. A co-worker wearing a blue T-shirt recalled the moment. He said, “I was with him (Xiao Zhang) going to the side of Building 4 to get tools. He walked behind me, and I saw him suddenly fall down. When I turned back, I saw the glass had shattered on his head. There was a lot of blood, and we realized he wasn’t wearing a safety helmet.” After the accident, the workers immediately called 120, but they couldn’t wait for the ambulance to arrive. Instead, the construction team drove Xiao Zhang to the nearest Peng Yu Health Center themselves. Despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away later that day. “He was only 27 years old,” said one of the workers, clearly emotional. “He’s from Anhui like me, and he hasn’t even married yet.” The chief engineer, Qi, acknowledged the situation, saying, “We have repeatedly reminded the workers to wear helmets. But many of them don’t do it because they find it uncomfortable or inconvenient during work.” This heartbreaking incident highlights the importance of safety measures on construction sites and serves as a reminder of the risks faced by laborers every day. As the investigation continues, questions remain about whether proper safety protocols were followed and what steps can be taken to prevent such tragedies in the future.
