1 Start by applying a primer to the wall or ceiling and ensure it is fully dry. Once ready, take the paint you’ve selected and begin painting.
2 When painting walls or ceilings, the first coat should be as thin as possible, regardless of whether a stabilizer is used. If using water-based paint, dilute it with water; for oil-based paint, use turpentine instead. This helps reduce surface absorption and improves the finish. If using a brush, make sure the paint on the bristles is evenly distributed.
3 For the final coat, start by painting small areas like the ceiling corners and wall edges using a 5 cm wide brush. Then, work along the door, window, switch, and fireplace edges in the same way. Apply a thin layer around the baseboards as well.
4 In an area of about 2 square meters (2 square yards), fill in the remaining spaces from the ceiling down to the wall. While the previous section is still wet, start the next one, slightly overlapping the two sections. Aim to complete an entire wall or ceiling in one go for a smoother look.
5 If using a brush, vary the direction of your strokes in the same area to avoid visible brush marks and achieve a more even color. Avoid overloading the brush with paint. If using a roller, use a cross-rolling technique and avoid sudden movements to prevent paint splatters.
1 If needed, apply a primer first and let it dry according to the manufacturer's instructions.
2 When applying the top coat to woodwork, start by painting along the grain. Paint small sections of 30 square centimeters on the trim or 60 square centimeters on the baseboard. Then, apply the paint across the grain and finish by going back along the wood grain. If the grain runs vertically, just paint straight up.
3 When painting a wooden door, start with the hardware such as the handle, knob, and keyhole.
1 It’s recommended to follow this sequence when painting: 2 embossed frame, 3 parts, 4 straight parts, 5 parts, 6 boxes.
4 Tape the window glass carefully, leaving a 3 mm overlap between the glass and the window sill. Seal any gaps to prevent moisture from getting behind the paint. Do not prime the window paint—start from the window, then move along the edge, and finally paint the frame. After the paint dries, remove the tape. If paint gets on the glass, gently scrape it off with a knife or razor.
5 Before painting the skirting board, lay down backing paper on the floor. If needed, place masking tape along the edges and start from the corner. Try to complete the whole skirting board in one session. Remove the tape after the paint dries. Before painting the heater, make sure the blower is completely cool.
2 Use colored paint for the first coat, as heat can cause regular paint to fade. Avoid painting near the valve. It’s good practice to clean your brush immediately after use. Water-based paints can be cleaned with a mild detergent, while oil-based ones require turpentine. After washing, wipe the brush with a kitchen towel to keep it in good condition.
