How to choose mobile power?

With so many mobile power bank brands available in the market, it's easy for everyday consumers to feel overwhelmed when trying to choose the right one. Most people don’t have the technical knowledge to evaluate or test these products before buying. As a result, they often rely on what they’ve heard or seen online. But how can you make an informed decision? To find out, we spoke with a sales representative at an electronics store.

First and foremost, avoid buying mobile power banks that are priced extremely low. The old saying “you get what you pay for” still holds true in this case. While there may be a few cost-effective options or well-made products on the market, these are exceptions rather than the rule. If you do a basic cost analysis, you can easily spot fake or overhyped products that claim higher capacities than they actually deliver. For example, take the commonly used 18650 batteries found in most power banks. A single 18650 battery typically has a capacity of around 2500 mAh and costs between 10 to 30 yuan. When you add the casing, packaging, and reasonable profit margin for the seller, a 10,000 mAh power bank should realistically cost between $100 and $200. Brand-name models will likely cost even more due to research, development, and brand value. That’s why claims like “10,000 units sold per month” or “30,000 mAh for just 90 yuan” online are usually too good to be true.

Second, try to go for well-known brands. After all, a power bank is still a power source, and safety and reliability are key. Before purchasing, check the company’s background online. Reputable manufacturers that produce phone batteries, dry batteries, or lithium batteries tend to offer more trustworthy and high-quality power banks. On the other hand, products from OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers), private label items, or unlicensed brands are not recommended for regular users.

By following these simple tips, you can avoid common pitfalls and make a smarter purchase next time. Always remember: quality doesn't come cheap, and sometimes, a little extra investment can save you from future headaches.
