When installing a KOYO needle roller bearing, it's important to understand the type of fit between the inner and outer rings and the shaft or housing. If the inner ring is tightly mounted on the shaft and the outer ring is loosely fitted into the housing, the bearing should be pressed onto the shaft first, then the shaft with the bearing is inserted into the housing. For smaller bearings, you can gently tap the end face of the inner ring using a soft metal hammer, ensuring even pressure is applied across the entire surface. In cases where the outer ring is tightly fitted to the housing and the inner ring is loosely fitted to the shaft, the installation process typically starts by mounting the bearing on the shaft. When either the inner or outer ring is tightly engaged with the shaft or housing, a special sleeve tool should be used to press the bearing into place carefully. KOYO needle roller bearings are designed for easy installation due to their ability to attach securely to both the shaft and housing. However, during installation, care must be taken to ensure that the shaft installed inside the inner ring is aligned properly with the housing. Maintaining concentricity is crucial to avoid damaging the rolling elements or the raceways. For larger bearings, especially those requiring high installation force or heavy load applications with significant interference fits, cold installation may not be practical. In such cases, the inner ring or housing should be heated before installation. The heating temperature should be strictly controlled—typically between 80°C and 100°C, with a maximum of 120°C. Bearings with dust covers or seals should never be heated, as this can cause the lubricant to degrade or be lost. Heating methods can include electric induction or oil bath heating, depending on the situation and available equipment.
