Rapid solution of electromagnetic flowmeter failure

The electromagnetic flowmeter is a highly accurate, reliable, and long-lasting device. Because of this, we take great care in every aspect of product design, material selection, process development, production assembly, and factory testing. China's most advanced production equipment dedicated to electromagnetic flowmeters and flow calibration systems ensures the consistent quality of our products in both software and hardware.

Common faults in electromagnetic flowmeters can occur if the system is not used properly. Jinli Instruments produces high-precision flow measurement devices that require careful handling during operation. If not used correctly, errors may arise. What are the common causes of these errors?

1. The liquid flowing through the pipeline contains solids such as powder, granules, or fibers. This can lead to several issues: - Slurry noise; - Contamination of the electrode surface; - Conductive or insulating deposits covering the electrodes or lining; - Wear or deposit buildup on the lining, reducing the cross-sectional area of the flow.

2. The liquid in the pipe is not fully filled. This can happen due to insufficient back pressure or improper installation of the flow sensor. Depending on the degree of underfilling and flow conditions, the symptoms may vary: - If a small amount of gas is present and forms a stratified or wavy flow, the error may increase, causing the measured flow to differ from the actual value. - If the flow is bubbly or plug-like, the output may fluctuate rapidly, with gas momentarily covering the electrode surface. - In horizontal pipelines, an increase in gas content can cause the flow to become partially empty, leading to unstable output. If the liquid level falls below the electrode, it may result in an over-full signal.

3. Liquids that may crystallize. Electromagnetic flowmeters should be used with caution when measuring fluids prone to crystallization. Some chemical solutions may behave normally at room temperature, but if the pipes are well-insulated, they won't crystallize during transport. However, the measuring tube of the electromagnetic flowmeter is difficult to heat trace. As a result, when the fluid passes through the measuring tube, it may form a solid layer on the inner wall due to temperature drops. To avoid this, an "orifice" type electromagnetic flowmeter with a short measuring tube can be used, or better upstream insulation can be applied. Additionally, the piping should allow for easy disassembly and maintenance in case of crystallization.

4. Faults caused by mismatched electrode and grounding ring materials. The electrodes and grounding rings come into contact with the measured medium, and their compatibility is crucial. Poor material selection can lead to corrosion or surface effects. Surface effects include: - Chemical reactions (such as the formation of a passive film on the surface); - Electrochemical and polarization phenomena (which generate unwanted potentials); - Catalytic action (leading to aerosol formation on the electrode surface). Although the grounding ring can also experience similar effects, its impact is generally less significant.

With a service life of over 10–20 years, Jinli Instruments designs each component carefully—from the sensor to the converter. Every detail, from design and material selection to manufacturing and testing, is meticulously handled. We have developed the most advanced production lines dedicated to electromagnetic flowmeters in China, ensuring long-term product quality and performance.
