This innovation integrates plasma cutting systems with advanced software and control technologies to significantly enhance the cylindrical accuracy of holes, ensuring superior cutting quality and improved performance of plasma CNC cutting machines.
The new technology has been incorporated into ESAB’s latest plasma cutting machines, featuring the m3 plasma system and the updated Columbus.NET nesting and cutting programming software. It is also available on the Vision T5 CNC, enabling users to cut high-quality bolt holes in low-carbon steel up to 30 mm thick, even when the hole diameter-to-thickness ratio is as small as 1:1.
Precision Hole Technology combines plasma systems, controllers, programming software, height control, and cutting machines. All factors that influence hole quality are automatically adjusted and controlled, including gas flow, torch height, speed, acceleration, kerf compensation, and plasma gas settings—without requiring direct input from skilled operators.
This advancement leverages the sophisticated gas control features of the m3 plasma system, along with the Columbus III nesting and cutting software and a newly developed process control database. These elements are embedded within the Vision T5 CNC, allowing it to automatically optimize hole cuts and part nesting generated from the EasyShape Part Program Generator or imported DWG/DXF files.
A key component of this technology is the automatic height control system, which maintains the ideal torch height during the cutting process. An encoder precisely measures the torch’s position above the steel plate. When cutting a hole, the controller uses this data to maintain optimal height without relying on arc voltage, eliminating the impact of arc voltage delays and electrode wear on hole shape.
Additionally, Precision Hole Technology is now available on the new COMBIREX DX, SUPRAREX HD, and ERGOSTAR DX machines, and can be retrofitted onto many existing ESAB plasma cutting systems.
